Today’s Topic: The ‘I Don’t Have Time’ 🕒 Excuse in Relationships

Today, reflect as individuals and take the time to understand yourself better‼️

Are you truly investing in your relationship with your spouse?

In today’s busy world, people often say, “But I don’t have time” when it comes to important relationship matters like communication, intimacy, or resolving issues.
But is it really about time, or are we avoiding something deeper❓

We all have the same 24 hours in a day, yet somehow, couples raising even eight kids still find time to solve issues and nurture their relationship.

1. Priorities, not Time:
Busy lives make it hard to find time, but if we prioritise our relationship, we can always make time for each other.
2. Emotional Avoidance:
Often, “I don’t have time” masks emotional avoidance—avoiding tough conversations or difficult feelings creates emotional distance.
3. Fear of Vulnerability:
Sometimes, it’s easier to avoid talking about uncomfortable truths or being vulnerable, especially when we fear emotional discomfort.
4. Relationship Fatigue:
When couples are drained from life’s demands, they may avoid connecting because they need rest, not because they lack time.
5. The Cycle of Avoidance:
Avoiding issues can lead to disconnection, and it won’t solve anything. Over time, this habit erodes the relationship and creates bigger problems.

What can couples do?

✅ Reassess Priorities:
Instead of saying “I don’t have time,” say “Let’s make time.” “Let’s arrange time.” Small and regular moments of connection can make a big difference.

✅ Create space for vulnerability:
Be open about emotional needs and fears to build a closer connection.

✅ Break the cycle:
If avoidance is becoming a pattern, commit to addressing issues. Have 2-3 strategies ready to do so.

✅ Practice self-care together:
Take time for relaxation or hobbies to reduce stress and foster connection. DO IT regularly.

✅ Set boundaries:
Manage time better by setting boundaries for couple time or delegating tasks.

“I don’t have time” can be an excuse for avoiding deeper issues. Making time to connect and communicate is crucial for a healthy relationship. Prioritise your bond to ensure it thrives, even in a busy world.

‼️And remember, no counseling session, psychologist, or wise scholar will put in the effort to nurture or to fix your relationship. You must take responsibility.‼️

We all need actions, not just reading these messages for the sake of it.‼️

So, are you a mature adult ready to take responsibility for your input in your relationship with your spouse❓

The weekend is the perfect time to reflect and connect with your spouse.

Wishing you a peaceful and restful weekend.☀️ Salam Alaikum
