We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️
Salam alaikum dear Brothers and Sisters, I hope you are all doing well today.
We warmly welcome our new members.
This space is for all of us married and unmarried, sisters and brothers to grow into conscious individuals and conscious spouses. It is a place to learn about ourselves, to understand marriage more deeply, and to develop awareness in how we think, speak, and act within relationships and within our homes.
Messages in this group are not meant to be read just for the sake of reading. ❗️Please take them seriously and reflect on them deeply - individually, and if you have a spouse, discuss them together. Through sincere reflection and honest conversation, true understanding grows and conflicts are reduced.
You are always welcome to ask questions privately.
Todays theme:
RIGHTEOUSNESS or living with Taqwa (God-consciousness)
I often hear Muslims say they are searching for a righteous husband or a righteous wife for themselves or some for their children. And I sincerely pause and ask:
Do we really understand what we are asking for?
Many will say,
“Of course, someone who prays five times a day and has good character, believes in Allah.”
Yes, prayer and good character are essential. But…
Before we search for someone or pray and ask Allah SWT for something…
*We should consciously understand what it actually means.*❗️
Righteousness in Islam is not a cultural label, not a personality type, and not limited to prayer or belief alone.
Prayer without justice is ritual.
Religious speech without humility is performance. 🎭
Authority without mercy is oppression.
Islamically, RIGHTEOUSNESS (ṣalāḥ) means:
Living with Taqwa (God-consciousness), fulfilling obligations with justice and mercy according to one’s ability, avoiding harm, and returning to Allah SWT in repentance when one falls short. It is faith manifested through character and accountability.
Righteousness is direction and effort, not flawlessness.
So when we say we want a righteous spouse, what are we truly looking for?
🚹*A Righteous Man in Islam*
A righteous man is not simply a man who prays or speaks religiously.
He is a man who:
✅Fears Allah SWT in private and public
✅Repents when wrong instead of defending his ego
✅Controls anger instead of using it as power
✅Treats his wife with mercy and respect
✅Does not insult, intimidate, or weaponise religion
✅Understands qiwamah ( responsible leadership) as responsibility before authority
✅Provides and protects according to his ability
✅Makes his home emotionally and physically safe
*Because the husband is entrusted with leadership, he is accountable before Allah SWT for how he uses that .*❗️
Leadership in Islam is a trust and every trust will be questioned.
A man who prays but harms is not righteous. Righteousness is proven in how power is restrained, not claimed.
🚺*A Righteous Woman in Islam*
A righteous woman is not defined by silence or endless sacrifice.
She is a woman who:
✅Fears Allah SWT and strives sincerely
✅Maintains good character with dignity
✅Protects trust and private matters
✅Supports her husband in what is halal
✅Does not obey in sin or injustice
✅Cares for her home and family according to her capacity
✅Returns to Allah SWT when she falls short
The Prophet pbuh once mentioned a woman who prayed at night and fasted by day, yet she harmed her neighbors with her tongue. He said she would be in Hellfire because of that harm.
This teaches us something serious:
*Worship without character is not righteousness. Prayer does not cancel oppression. Harm destroys piety.*❗️
A woman can be righteous even in hardship. Allah SWT judges her according to her intention, effort, and capacity -fully aware of her circumstances.
⚖️ A righteous marriage requires both a righteous husband and a righteous wife.
Because the husband carries leadership, he carries greater accountability in areas of authority, and his justice strongly affects whether the wife’s righteousness can flourish.
This is a hierarchy of responsibility, not a hierarchy of human value. ❗️
From a psychological perspective:
The person with authority shapes the emotional climate of the home. When there is safety, the nervous system relaxes and growth, honesty, and sincerity become possible.
When there is fear and fights, the nervous system shifts into survival mode and people may comply outwardly but withdraw inwardly.
Searching for a “righteous spouse” while neglecting our own character is spiritually dangerous.
Before asking:
“Is she righteous?”
“Is he righteous?”
We all should ask ourselves :
❓*Am I a source of sakinah (tranquility) for my spouse or a source of anxiety?*
❓*Am I just when I am angry?*
❓*Do I admit when I am wrong, or do I defend my ego?*
❓*Do I bring mercy into my home or pressure?*
❓*Would I feel at peace if my daughter or son married someone with my character?*
That question alone is deeply revealing.
And remember, a righteous marriage is built on mutual Taqwa, shared dignity, and greater accountability for the one entrusted with leadership.
Before we pray for a righteous spouse, we should strive to become one.
May Allah SWT make us people of Taqwa in private and public.
Ameen. 🤲🏻
