We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️
Assalamu Alaikum dear Brothers and Sisters ❤️
I hope you are all feeling well today.
We often think about physical hygiene - taking care of our bodies, keeping ourselves clean and healthy. But how often do we think about our emotional hygiene?
Emotional hygiene means regularly paying attention to what is happening inside us-recognising, accepting, expressing and regulating our emotions rather than allowing them to build up.
From a psychological perspective, emotions are not simply “good” or “bad”. They can give us valuable information about what we are experiencing, what matters to us, and sometimes what needs our attention.
We can regularly ask ourselves:
💭 What am I feeling right now?
💭 What may have triggered this feeling?
💭 What is this emotion trying to tell me?
💭 Is there an unmet need or a boundary underneath it?
💭 How can I respond rather than simply react?
Islam also teaches us to pay attention to our inner world. Our hearts need care just as our bodies do.
Allah tells us:
“*Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort.*”
(Qur’an 13:28)
Islam does not teach us that experiencing sadness, fear, anger or emotional pain makes us weak in faith. Even the Prophets experienced grief, fear and distress. What matters is how we carry those emotions and what we choose to do with them.
We can bring our emotions to Allah through duʿā, salah, dhikr and reflection, while also taking healthy practical steps - communicating honestly, establishing boundaries, seeking support, resting when we are overwhelmed and taking responsibility for our behaviour.
Emotional hygiene is not about suppressing difficult feelings or pretending everything is fine.
It is learning to say:
“This is what I am feeling. Why am I feeling it? What might Allah be teaching me through this experience? And what would be the healthiest and most pleasing response to Allah?”
🌸 Take a little time today to check in with yourself.
What is your heart carrying today?
Sometimes caring for our emotional wellbeing is not separate from caring for our faith -it can be part of nurturing the heart Allah SWT has entrusted to us. ❤️🌿
