We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️

Salam Alaikum dear Brothers and Sisters, I hope you all had a blessed weekend with your families and that you are feeling well today.

Warm welcome to our new members. 🌿

Today’s reminder is about listening, empathy, and venting out important keys to building harmony and peace in our marriages.

Very often in my consultations I ask sisters: “But have you spoken about it to your husband?”
The answer I hear is: “Yes, many times… I’m trying to speak, but he is shutting me down.”

This shows how vital it is for brothers to create a safe space to listen and for sisters to choose the right time and approach. Without open communication, small problems easily grow into big walls between hearts.

Marriage is built on sakīnah (tranquility), mawaddah (affection), and raḥmah (mercy). To nurture these, we must understand how men and women express emotions differently. Psychology confirms what our dīn already guides us toward - empathy, patience, and wise communication.

Women often cope with stress by venting and verbalising feelings. This is not complaining or nagging, it’s a healthy coping mechanism.

🌸*Dear sisters*, your husband may not always respond as you hope. He is your life partner, but not a professional counselor. Sometimes he may withdraw or complain and it’s very important to understand that we created differently and each person is very unique.
✨ So before speaking, ask yourself:
• Why do I want to share this now?
• What am I really asking for: help, understanding, or empathy?
• Is this the right time when he can listen calmly?

👉 If not, wait for a better moment. You can say:
“I need to share something with you later, when you have energy and time. Let me know when we can speak.”

💡 And dear brothers, note: if a woman vents, it doesn’t always mean she wants a solution. Often she just wants to be heard and/ or reassured that you’ll keep it in mind. ‼️If she wants to speak about a particular topic, don’t divert her -let her express it fully and truly hear her concerns.

Men are often more solution-focused, so listening without “fixing” may feel difficult. Sometimes a wife’s words may sound like nagging.
But dear brothers remember the advice of the Prophet pbuh:
“*The best of you are those who are best to their wives*.” (Tirmidhi)

✨ A helpful habit: ask her openly, “Do you want me to give a solution, or do you just want to vent out and be heard?”
If you are tired or stressed, listen with empathy and agree to return later with your points /solutions ect.. This way, she feels heard and respected.

⚠️ Never silence your wife. If you do, she may seek another ear, which may not be the right one. Be her safe space.

🧩 A reminder for both

Most problems in couples come because we are not listening and truly hearing. Strengthen communication skills and practice empathic listening.

💞 The best solution that truly works: spouses giving quality time daily. If you decided to marry, it means you decided to overcome everything together. Agree on a time to talk about your day, your concerns, complaints, joys. Listen, and care with empathy and don’t push away each other. And yes, sabr is needed from both sides.

✨ Community Note

Sisters, you have other healthy options if you are feeling the need and urge to vent out but your husband can’t or he is not beside you. You can do this in healthy ways- by speaking with a trusted female friend or relative, seeking guidance from a counselor or life coach, writing in a diary, and most importantly, turning your heart to Allah SWT in dua and prayer.

But also remember: you are always welcome for a free 30-minute personal consultation session for extra support here in our community.
