We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️
Salam Alaikum dear Brothers and Sisters, I hope you are all having a peaceful Friday.
Today I’d like to share a simple relationship experiment.
For the next 24 hours, stop trying to fix your spouse.
Yes, really.
❌Don’t improve them.
❌Don’t educate them.
❌Don’t correct them.
❌Don’t tell them how they should think, feel, parent, drive, eat, communicate, or organise their day.
Just observe.
Psychologists call this a negative attention bias. The human brain is naturally wired to notice problems, mistakes, and potential threats. It’s a survival mechanism. In relationships, this can lead us to focus so much on what irritates us that we stop seeing the whole person.
*Our attention shapes our reality*-what we focus on grows in our awareness. If we focus on flaws, we see more flaws. If we focus on understanding, we begin to see the person behind the behavior.
So here’s the experiment:
For one day, every time you notice something your spouse does that annoys you, ask yourself:
“What is the positive intention behind this behavior?”
Maybe they spend a lot of time on their phone because they’re trying to switch off after a stressful day.
Maybe they need everything organised because it helps them feel calm.
Maybe they keep giving advice because helping is how they show love.
Maybe they work so much because providing for the family makes them feel valuable.
You don’t have to agree with the behavior. You are simply training your mind to see the whole person again.
Relationships rarely suffer because people stop loving each other. More often, they suffer because they stop being curious about each other.
Today, instead of asking,
“How can I change my him/her?”
Try asking,
“What am I no longer seeing about him/her?”
Curiosity doesn’t mean agreement. It simply means making room to see the person beyond the habit, the intention behind the action, and the human being behind the frustration.
You may be surprised by what comes back into view.
And sometimes, that is where connection begins again. ❤️
