There is one more thing I would like to mention. Dear sisters who feel unsure about fasting because of mental or physical struggles, please remember this. Last year, some sisters asked: “Should I fast if I’m on antidepressants?” “Can I fast if I have anemia?” “What if I have an infection and I’m unwell?”
So let us remember something clearly. Fasting in Ramadan is a religious obligation - an act of worship for Allah SWT.
But it is obligatory only for those who are able.
“Whoever is ill or on a journey — then make up the days later. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend hardship for you.” (Qur’an 2:185)
*Islam is not here to break us or make to feel worse.*❣️
So instead of asking, “Can I fast?”
Ask yourself honestly, “Will fasting harm me right now?”
Allah SWT tells us that He intends ease for us, not hardship.
This is not about looking for an excuse not to fast - it is about assessing your situation honestly and responsibly before Allah SWT.
And remember, every person and every situation is different. Even if two people have the same illness or weakness, their ability may not be the same.
If fasting worsens your condition, delays healing, destabilises your mental health, or interferes with necessary treatment, Islam allows you to pause and make up the days later. That is not weakness, it’s responsibility.
Do not stop medication suddenly and do not ignore real warning signs from your body.
And please, do not let anyone shame or mock you.
Each soul stands before Allah SWT alone. Accountability is according to one’s ability.
Allah SWT knows your intention and your struggle.
So if you doubting choose with sincerity and wisdom. And be conscious about yourself.
For our non-Muslim sisters who are part of this group: you are always welcome here.❤️
If you are curious about fasting, you may try a voluntary fast, such as on a Monday or Thursday, as Muslims traditionally do.
But please approach it gradually and responsibly. Stay hydrated, listen to your body, and make sure you have no medical conditions that would make fasting unsafe.
Fasting in Islam is spiritual before it is physical. It is about reflection, intention, and self-discipline - not self-harm.
Start gently. Observe how you feel. Always prioritise your health.
May Allah SWT grant everyone clarity, strength, and ease.🤲🏻Ameen 🤍
