🌙*As One Year Ends and Another Begins....*
The crescent of Muḥarram was sighted in various countries, hence today, Tuesday, will mark the beginning of the new Hijrī year, 1 Muḥarram 1448.
A year has ended and a new year has begun. This is a fitting time to reflect over the year that has passed and all that it contained.
What remains of it? Everything within it has passed and has come to an end. Nothing remains except that which you have sent forward for your Hereafter—whether good or evil. Therefore, build your coming year upon the goodness that remains from this one, and prepare yourself with the lawful provisions you need for your journey.
💭 Reflection
The days and months have passed swiftly, carrying with them moments of joy and sorrow, ease and hardship. All of that has now become part of the past. What truly remains are the deeds that have been recorded for us with Allâh (ﷻ).
As we enter Muḥarram, let us ask ourselves:
☘️What righteous deeds have I preserved?
☘️What sins do I need to repent from?
☘️What habits should I strengthen or abandon?
☘️How can I draw closer to Allâh (ﷻ) in the coming year?
The wise person is not the one who merely witnesses the passing of years, but the one who increases in faith, repentance, gratitude, and righteous deeds as they pass.
The Virtue of Muḥarram
Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه reported that the Messenger of Allâh (ﷺ) said:
أَفْضَلُ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ الصَّلَاةُ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ، وَأَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ صِيَامُ شَهْرِ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمِ
"The best ṣalāh after the prescribed ṣalāhs is the ṣalāh offered during the depths of the night, and the best fasting after the month of Ramaḍān is fasting in the month of Allâh, al-Muḥarram."
📖 Sahīh Muslim (1163)
May Allâh (ﷻ) forgive our shortcomings, accept our righteous deeds, bless us in the year ahead, and make it a year filled with obedience, beneficial knowledge, sincerity, and steadfastness upon the Sunnah.
