We for You | Reflection | *by Maryam*❤️
Assalamu Alaikum dear Brothers and Sisters, I hope you are all doing well, InshaAllah.
Our recent poll asked:
💭 Which quality do you think is most important for rebuilding a relationship after someone makes a mistake?
* 🌱 Consistent changed behaviour
* 🤲 Sincere repentance
* 💬 Honest communication
* 🤍 Patience and forgiveness
The truth is… all of them matter. Thank you to everyone who took part in the poll and shared your thoughts.
Psychology tells us that trust isn’t rebuilt by words alone.
A sincere apology may open the door.
Honest communication helps both people understand what happened.
Patience and forgiveness create space where healing can begin. ❤️🩹
*But lasting trust is rebuilt when behaviour consistently changes over time.*❣️
People rarely trust because they heard, “I’m sorry.”
Trust grows when, weeks and months later, they can see that the person’s actions have genuinely changed.
*Consistent actions create emotional safety.*❣️
*Consistency creates trust.*❣️
Islam beautifully teaches the same principle.
Allah SWT accepts sincere tawbah (repentance), but true repentance is more than simply saying “I’m sorry.” It involves genuine remorse, leaving the wrongdoing, and sincerely striving not to return to it.
When our mistakes involve another person, Islam also teaches us to restore their rights and seek their forgiveness.
When both people genuinely desire to restore the relationship, rebuilding trust becomes a shared journey.
The one who made the mistake is responsible for sincere repentance, taking responsibility, and demonstrating consistent change.
The one who was hurt is never obligated to pretend nothing happened. Trust often takes time to rebuild, and forgiveness does not always mean immediate reconciliation.
However, when both people sincerely desire to restore the relationship, there is also an opportunity for gentle self-reflection.
We can ask ourselves:
“*What did this experience teach me?”*
“Were there needs I never expressed or boundaries I never communicated?”
“Were there patterns in our communication that need to change?”
This isn’t about blaming ourselves for another person’s actions.
*It’s about growing in wisdom so that, together, we can build a healthier relationship moving forward.*❣️
Sometimes the most loving thing we can give each other is patience.
Patience to heal.
Patience to rebuild trust.
Patience to allow actions, not just words, to speak.
Whether you are the one seeking forgiveness or the one trying to forgive, remember this:
Healthy relationships are not built on perfection. They are built on:
🌿*Humility*
🌿*Accountability*
🌿*Mercy*
And the willingness to keep choosing what is right, even after we have failed.
May Allah SWT make us people who are quick to repent, sincere in our apologies, consistent in our actions, gentle in our speech, and generous in forgiveness.
May He repair our relationships, soften our hearts, and help us become people whose actions reflect the beautiful character taught by Prophet pbuh. Ameen. 🤲🏻
