Assalamu alaikum everyone 🌸 How is everyone doing? This group has been a bit quiet lately, so Insha Allah we can start a few good discussions before Ramadan! ✨

One of the biggest challenges many of us face is debt 💳. Especially living in non-Muslim countries, it sometimes feels like paying interest is unavoidable. And yes, I’m a queen 👑… but I wasn’t born into a rich royal family 🤪!

So how do we manage this? How much debt is “enough”?

Just to break it down a bit: disposable income is basically the money you have left over after paying your basic living expenses like food, rent, bills, transport, etc. 💵 Most experts will say it’s important to also have savings of around 3x your monthly income before you aggressively pay off debt. This is because life is unpredictable — we need a little cushion for emergencies and “what if” moments 💛.

It’s not recommended to use every cent of your remaining income just to clear debt, no matter how tempting that feels.

So here’s a question for everyone 🤔 — if you look at your remaining income after basics, what percentage do you think could reasonably go toward paying off debt, while still keeping a safety net for yourself? 💭
