We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️
Assalamu Alaikum dear sisters. 🌸I hope you are all doing well today.
Many sisters ask me, “How can I become more confident?”
My answer is always the same: confidence comes through action. It isn’t something you’re born with; it’s something you build.
That’s one of the reasons I started the We for You organisation, to create a safe space where ordinary people can discover their voice, grow in confidence, and realise that they have something valuable to share.
Not everyone is a scholar or a public speaker, but every one of us has experiences, lessons, skills, and stories that can benefit someone else.
Some of us can inspire through our life journeys. Others can share professional knowledge or practical skills. Every voice is unique, and every sincere reminder has value.
There’s a phrase people use nowadays “yap on camera.” It simply means: stop overthinking, press record, and start speaking naturally. I’ve always believed that each of us has a unique way of speaking that no one else can replicate.
So today, I want to encourage you all: just start talking. Start by recording your voice just for yourself. Speak about what you’ve learned, a challenge you’ve overcome, something you’re grateful for, or a reminder that has benefited you. It’s a wonderful way to build confidence, improve your communication, and discover your own voice.
If speaking to a camera feels too uncomfortable, start by speaking in front of a mirror.
Another simple exercise is to get used to hearing your own voice. Record a voice note and send it to yourself, or simply listen back to it. At first, it might feel strange, but the more you hear yourself speak, the more comfortable and confident you’ll become.
As soon as you press record or even begin speaking in front of the mirror, you may notice your inner critic speaking louder than your own voice. It might tell you, “I’m not good enough,” “I don’t sound confident,” or “Who would want to listen to me?” Almost everyone experiences these thoughts.
Don’t let them stop you. Confidence doesn’t come before you begin, it grows because you begin. Every time you practise, you become a little more comfortable and a little more authentic.
Remember, Allah doesn’t ask us to be perfect, He asks us to be sincere. You don’t have to wait until you’re confident to begin. Begin, and with Allah’s help, confidence will follow.
If your intention is to benefit others for the sake of Allah, don’t let the fear of people’s opinions stop you from using the gifts Allah has given you.
And if you know any sisters or brothers who would like to speak to a wider audience, whether to share an inspiring life story, professional expertise, or beneficial knowledge, please let us know. We’d be delighted to invite them to speak at one of our We for You events, where we host talks that aim to inspire, educate, and benefit our communities, InshaAllah.
May Allah SWT increase us in confidence, wisdom, and sincerity. May He help us overcome our fears, use the gifts He has given us to benefit others, and make us among those who spread goodness and leave behind beneficial knowledge. Ameen. 🤲🏻
