We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️
Assalamu Alaikum dear Sisters, I hope you are all feeling well. 🌸
“How do I know which path to choose in life?”
It is one of the most common questions I hear during consultations.
Interestingly, it’s also a question I have asked myself many times throughout my life.
Yesterday, I was blessed to receive another university degree. Alhamdulillah. But that achievement didn’t begin yesterday. It began years ago with one decision–to take a path without knowing exactly where it would lead.
Looking back, I realise that if I had waited until I felt completely certain, I might never have taken that first step. Many of the greatest blessings in our lives begin with a decision made before we can see the whole journey.
Recently, I supported young woman who felt completely stuck. She had several possible paths in front of her but couldn’t decide which one to take. The more she thought about it, the more overwhelmed she became.
From a psychological perspective, this is very common.
When we stand between several options, our brain doesn’t only evaluate the opportunities- it also focuses on everything we might lose by making a choice. We fear making the wrong decision, disappointing others, wasting time, failing, or closing doors that may never open again. The pressure to make the “perfect” decision often leaves us making no decision at all.
Very often, the problem isn’t a lack of information.
The problem is that fear becomes louder than our values.
As Muslims, we are reminded that while we are responsible for making sincere effort, the outcome ultimately belongs to Allah SWT . We are encouraged to seek knowledge, make thoughtful decisions, pray Salat al-Istikharah, consult those with wisdom, place our trust in Allah (tawakkul), and then move forward.
True guidance (hidayah) comes from Allah. We can gather information, reflect, seek advice, and pray, but ultimately we ask Allah to guide our hearts towards what is best for our dunya and our akhirah. Sometimes the greatest peace comes not from knowing the future, but from trusting the One who does.
More often than not, people don’t need someone to tell them exactly what to do. They need someone who can help them untangle their thoughts, understand their emotions, recognise what truly matters to them, and reconnect with themselves. Clarity often comes when our mind becomes quieter, our heart becomes more honest, and our trust in Allah SWT becomes stronger.
Every path we choose shapes us.
We don’t simply choose a path.
The path also shapes who we become.
Looking back, every decision I have made, whether right or wrong, has taught me something. Every challenge has refined me, bringing new knowledge, deeper understanding, and greater humility.
The more I learn, the more I realise how much there is still to discover.
Human behaviour and health are as deep as the ocean and as vast as the universe. Every answer opens the door to new questions, reminding me of Allah’s infinite wisdom and how little we truly know.
Although I deeply value academic education, I also continue to believe in a holistic approach to wellbeing- one that recognises the importance of the mind, body, emotions, relationships, and faith. Psychology helps us understand how we think, feel, and behave. Islam gives us the purpose and guidance to direct those thoughts, feelings, and actions towards what pleases Allah SWT .
Perhaps today you are standing at your own crossroads.
Maybe your question isn’t about university.
Maybe it’s about your marriage, your career, motherhood, your health, your family, moving to another country, or simply finding the courage to take the next step in life.
Whatever your decision may be, don’t let fear become your guide.
✅Seek knowledge.
✅Reflect sincerely.
✅Pray Salat al-Istikharah.
✅Consult people of wisdom.
✅Place your trust in Allah.
✅ Then have the courage to choose.
Not because you know exactly where the path will lead, but because you know Who is guiding your steps.
You don’t need to know every step of the journey.
You only need enough faith to take the next one.
“And whoever puts their trust in Allah, then He is sufficient for them.” (Qur’an 65:3)
May Allah SWT guide us all to what is best for our dunya and our akhirah.🤲🏻
Alhamdulillah for every step of this journey. 💗
