Hadith No. 12

Jabir reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Shall I not tell you upon whom the Hellfire will be forbidden on the Day of Judgment? It is everyone who is gentle, lenient, accessible, and easy-going.”
(Musnad Abī Ya’lá 1853 – Sahih according to Al-Albani)

In this hadith, the Prophet ﷺ is teaching us a secret to being protected from the Hellfire. It is a beautiful reminder to improve our character and become better Muslims. This message is especially for us as believers.

Let us now try to understand what it really means to be gentle, lenient, easy-going, and accessible so that we can apply it in our lives.

🩷 Gentle (رفيق)
To be gentle means to be kind in our thoughts, words, and actions. It means speaking kindly and acting softly. The Prophet ﷺ was always gentle, even when he corrected people. Children and companions loved him because he never shouted harshly or pushed them away.

⭐️ Application: We should be kind and soft in our actions and words, avoiding hurting others and making them feel safe with us.

🍎 Lesson: If we are gentle, people will feel secure around us, and Allah loves this quality.

📌 Question to ponder: How can you be gentle with your friends, siblings, or classmates this week?

🩷 Lenient (سهل)
Being lenient means being forgiving and not too strict. It means giving others a chance when they make mistakes, instead of being harsh. The Prophet ﷺ forgave even those who hurt him, like the people of Ta’if.

⭐️ Application: We should be forgiving and not overly strict, especially with those younger and weaker than us. We should give people another chance when they slip.

🍎 Lesson: If we are lenient with people, Allah will be lenient with us on the Day of Judgment.

📌 Question to ponder: Can you think of a time when someone made a mistake with you, did you forgive them, or did you stay upset?

🩷 Easy-going (هَيِّن)
An easy-going person is calm and flexible. They do not get angry quickly, and they go along with good things without complaining or making them hard. For example, if plans change, they stay happy and adjust.

⭐️ Application: We should try to be calm and avoid anger, learning to adjust to different situations without making a fuss.

🍎 Lesson: Life becomes peaceful when we do not argue or fight over small things.

📌 Question to ponder: What is something small that usually makes you upset and how can you practice being easy-going about it?

🩷 Accessible (قريب)
Being accessible means being friendly and approachable. It means that others feel comfortable coming to you. An accessible person smiles, listens, and never makes others feel scared or ashamed. The Prophet ﷺ was so accessible that even children would run to him, and he would greet them warmly.

⭐️ Application: We should be friendly and easy to talk to, making others feel comfortable coming to us for help, advice, or even just a smile.

🍎 Lesson: A Muslim should be someone that others can turn to when they need comfort, support, or guidance.

📌 Question to ponder: Do your friends and family feel comfortable talking to you when they need help? What can you do to make them feel welcome?

These are beautiful qualities we must bring into our lives. If we live with gentleness, leniency, ease, and accessibility, Allah will place love for us in people’s hearts in this world, and He will honor us in the Hereafter.

📖 Remember: The best Muslim is both gentle and kind, caring in the heart and soft in actions.

🤲🏼May Allah make us among those whom the Hellfire will never touch. May He beautify our character with gentleness, leniency, ease, and accessibility, and gather us with the Prophet ﷺ in Jannah al-Firdaws.

Wa sallallahu ‘ala nabiyyina Muhammad, wa ‘ala alihi wa sahbihi ajma‘in.
