From a recent conversation with my husband came another reflection - about Protective Jealousy (Ghayrah).
There’s a feeling that sometimes looks like ego, but it’s actually something noble in Islam, it’s called ghayrah, or protective jealousy.
*It’s a man’s natural sense of honour and care for his family, but it must come from faith, not pride.*‼️
The Prophet pbuh once heard a man speak strongly about protecting his wife’s honour.
The Prophet pbuh said that he had even stronger ghayrah, but his was for the sake of Allah SWT, not out of anger or ego.
That shows us that protective jealousy, when guided by faith and respect, is beautiful -but when mixed with pride or rage, it becomes injustice.
He also warned against the opposite- the dayyūth, a man who has no sense of protection or concern for his family’s dignity.
This isn’t about control; it’s about care, responsibility, and boundaries that honour Allah SWT .
So for us all to remember:
✅*Ghayrah comes from faith, balance, and self-control.*
✅*Ego comes from fear, pride, and insecurity.*
A real man’s strength isn’t in controlling his wife it’s in protecting her with love, guiding her with respect, and trusting her with dignity.
And for women it’s important to understand when a man is acting from ghayrah, not ego.
When his protectiveness is rooted in faith and sincerity, it deserves understanding and respect.
At the same time, the greater responsibility still lies on the husband -to make sure his ghayrah comes from wisdom, not anger, from care, not control.
This balance and conversations what keeps love, respect, and hearts at peace. 💚
Just discuss this with your spouse honestly.
