We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️
Salam Alaikum dear Brothers and Sisters, I hope you are all feeling well today.
Warm welcome new member to the group. ❤️
Few sisters approached me with a painful questions which I shortened:
“Should my husband prioritise his mother over me?”
“Why can’t I visit my mom when my husband objects?”
I texted previously about in-laws.
But today about WIFE VS MOTHER
The above questions are not asked of rebellion they are questions of confusion, emotion, and longing for fairness.
Many brothers and sisters will say it’s jealousy, but I see situations holistically and very rare is jealousy on an individual level. Today’s message brings together insights from both Islam and psychology.
Mother and wife both are sacred, but they serve different purposes:
🌹*The mother is the foundation of life, the source of love and mercy, deserving of lifelong respect.*
🌸*The wife is a companion and partner in building a new family , her right is affection, safety, and dignity.*
Allah SWT commands:
“And live with them (your wives) in kindness.” (Surah An-Nisa 4:19)
and
“Be dutiful to your parents.” (Surah Al-Isra 17:23)
These two commands are not opposites, they are paths toward righteousness. Islam never told a man to choose between his mother and his wife, it told him to honor both, wisely and justly.
Dear brothers your position as a leader and as qawwam (protector and maintainer) is not one of power, but of responsibility.
A true man is not the one who pleases one side by hurting the other, but the one who holds both sides with fairness.
It must be very hard for the man to establish that balance if 2 women having confrontation.
And from a psychological perspective, when a man fails to set emotional boundaries between his mother and his wife, it leads to:
💔Anxiety and guilt within himself,
💔Emotional tension between the two women, and
💔A home filled with insecurity instead of peace.
Healthy manhood requires emotional differentiation to love his mother deeply without allowing that love to cause injustice to his wife first from the man.
The Prophet pbuh said:
“The best of you are those who are best to their wives.” (Tirmidhi)
So a man’s goodness is tested not in his authority, but in his gentleness and balance.
A wife’s obedience to her husband is an act of faith but only when it is within what is halal, fair, and safe.
If a husband prevents her from seeing her parents without valid reason, it becomes emotional control, not leadership.
From a psychological angle, such restriction can create emotional isolation, resentment, and even spiritual exhaustion.
*Every person man or woman needs secure attachment, not control, pressure.*‼️
So first step from all messy situations should be communication, not confrontation.
A wise wife can often soften her husband’s heart through calm dialogue, dua, and empathy and naturally calm the situation.
Many mothers struggle to let go emotionally when their sons marry. But Islam teaches that a son’s marriage is not a loss, it’s a continuation of love through a new bond. Maybe they wanted better daughter in law but Allah SWT pared with that her son.
If we believe that spouses we meeting for a reason and it was our destiny, means there is greater reason than we think.
From a psychological perspective, when a mother clings too tightly or competes for attention, it often comes from emotional dependency or fear of losing significance.
So in Islam and psychology, a healthy family system depends on boundaries and balance.
• A husband must honor his mother but stand firm in justice for his wife.
• A wife must respect her husband but not lose her emotional well-being.
• A mother must continue to guide with love, not guilt or control or fear.
When each person fulfills their role sincerely, peace fills the home because love guided by taqwa (God-consciousness) heals every heart it touches.
Wishing everyone wisdom, balance and peace. 🤲🏻❤️
