Assalamu alaikum, how is everyone? Apologies for the delay in response.
Children can be introduced to family and household finances from a young age in simple, age-appropriate ways.
• Age 3 – Introduce basic concepts of money by showing coins and notes, and teaching that things cost money.
• Age 7 – Provide a small allowance and encourage saving for something they want, building patience and planning skills.
• Age 10 – Involve them in simple budgeting, like comparing prices or distinguishing between needs and wants.
• Age 13 – Engage them in family discussions about spending choices, saving, and giving to charity.
• Age 18 – Guide them into full responsibility for their own finances, including managing a budget, understanding bills, and planning for financial independence.
