Salam Alaikum sisters. 🌸Hope you all are doing well and having peaceful day.
As I mentioned before I will be sharing my knowledge not only about parenting but also about physical health and healthy lifestyle.
Today I would like to share and remind
very important information for parents who are having newborns! 👶👩🍼
Most of the parents knowing it, but many parents, especially new ones or who sticked with cultural traditions purposely or not purposely damaging kids sculls.
Especially now when the general recommendation is to lay baby only on the back.
The skull is not one big bone, it’s made up of many plates that grow and harden during the first months. Babies' skulls are still forming, so the plates are soft and flexible and parents need to pay attention to that. Just as every structure in the body adapts and tries to adapt when given an impulse or pressure, the bones of the head adapting too.
Bones deform when they receive an uneven pressure, harden in an attempt to adapt and babies' heads are also very adaptive and adapt to pressure. The shape of each person's head is different and surely you have seen even very interesting head shapes, they formed in the first months and it depended on what pressure was given to the baby's head.
The most common reasons of scull deformations:
1. If you often lay the baby on one side. Flexible and soft skull adapts to the pressure on one side and may become disproportionate, especially if it is laid on a hard surface.
2. Frequent transportation in a car seat and supporting the back of the head to one point can also cause deformation.
3. Leaving baby in electric baby bouncer and using any bouncer for continuous sleeping is not only bad for scull but also for back formation.
4. Purposely putting folded towels, heavy pillows around babies head that baby sleeps straight.
And it's not just about proportional and beautiful shape of the head. But the muscles of the head, face, and facial expressions are formed on these bones, for which the attachment points change due to the deformed bones of the head, which creates an uneven actions, although this is very difficult to determine.
Molding helmets are most effective in treating head unevenness when treatment begins between ages 4 months and 12 months. And you can ask your GP.
But the most important is prevention.
The main preventive measure is to avoid long positions, when pressure is applied to one part of the head. The position of the babies needs to be changed and changed, sometimes on one side, sometimes on the back, sometimes on tummy ( when baby awakes and with full your supervision), sometimes kept upright so that the head forms nicely.
Let's share this information with those who may find it relevant and useful!
Thank you❤️
