And from an Islamic perspective, intimacy in marriage exists within something much bigger than physical desire.

Allah SWT describes marriage as a place of sakinah (tranquillity), love and mercy:

“And He placed between you affection and mercy.”
(Qur’an 30:21)

Islam recognises that intimacy is an important part of marriage and that both husband and wife have needs and rights. At the same time, the wider Islamic principles of marriage teach us kindness, consideration and good treatment of one another.
